Welcome from the Dean

I am delighted to welcome you to the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Florida International University.  The College was formed through a reorganization in October of 2006 that resulted in the merger of the former School of Nursing and the School of Health.  In our College are the following departments and programs: Athletic Training, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Information Management, Health Sciences, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy.

College of Nursing and Health Sciences

Last year, Nursing celebrated its 25th anniversary at FIU, proud to have graduated close to 4,000 alumni who serve as nurses and nursing leaders in the delivery of health care to the citizens of metropolitan Miami-Dade County and the state.

Our mission is to teach, conduct research, and serve the community.  The College of Nursing and Health Sciences prepares diverse healthcare professionals as providers and leaders in the delivery of high quality, accessible, and culturally competent care within a highly technological and global environment.  The College also promotes, expands and validates scientific knowledge and evidence-based practice through interdisciplinary research.

We pride ourselves in having:

  • Nationally recognized educators and researchers
  • Innovative alliances with leading health care facilities in South Florida
  • Leaders in culturally competent interdisciplinary education
  • Pioneering developments in technology-enhanced instruction
  • Vibrant, motivated and diverse student body
  • Long-standing commitment to serve and care for our communities.

Our diverse student body mirrors the vibrant multicultural South Florida community, with about 70% of our students originating from Hispanic or African American backgrounds.  Our curriculum incorporates strong themes of cultural diversity and cultural competence, addressing the healthcare needs of minority and underserved populations.  Faculty scholars and scientists in the College are known for their research on high-risk women and children, HIV prevention and care, depression and caregiving in the elderly, and other areas of investigation relevant to the health of our urban population.

I invite you to visit our website and campus to meet our exceptional faculty and learn more about our College and programs.

Sincerely,

Divina Grossman, PhD, RN, FAAN
