What do health
information managers do?
Health Information Management Program (HIM) prepares individuals to
function as HIM Practitioners responsible for a continuum of practice
concerned with health related information and the management of systems to
collect, store, process, retrieve, analyze, disseminate and communicate
information related to the research, planning, provision, and evaluation of
health care services. HIM curriculum is designed to train confident,
adaptable, reflective, and service-oriented practitioners who can identify
and use a variety of information resources and technologies to accomplish
the objectives of diverse practice environments.

What is required to
enter the HIM program?
To be admitted to HIM program, one must have:
- An AA or AS degree or 60 transferable lower division credits.
- A Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.5 or higher.

What degree will I receive?
A Bachelor of Science in HIM. Then, you become eligible to take
the RHIA exam

How long
does it take to complete the HIM program?
Full time students can complete HIM Program in two calendar
years. However, the average part time student should try to complete the
program in three (3) years.

When are classes offered?
All classes are offered in the evening during the following time frames:
5:00 PM to 7:40 PM, 6:25 PM to 9:05 PM, 7:50 PM to 10:30 PM

When can I enter then HIM
program?
HIM curriculum is designed to start in the Fall. However, students who are
permitted, for certain reasons to start at any other time, are advised of
the "lock step" courses which may not be taken out of sequence.

May I select the courses I want to take and simply register for these
courses?
No. All HIM students registration is put on hold until the student seeks
advisement with his/her academic advisor. Full time students entering in
the Fall Semester will be simply following the designed curriculum.
