Attention :All Future Health Information Management (HIM) Students
Effective summer 2008 all students admitted to the HIM Program must meet the following criteria:
Admissions:
- A minimum 2.5 cumulative.
- Completion of all HIM pre-requisites.
- Earned a grade of ‘B’ or better in Anatomy and Physiology (lectures and labs) and a grade of ‘C’ or better in all other HIM prerequisites.
- Lower Division Requirements (60 credits).
Applicants must meet all the lower division requirements for admission to undergraduate programs as established by the State University System of Florida and Florida International University.
Pre-requisites (* or approved substitutes)
- ZOO 3731/L Human Anatomy with Lab (4)
- PCB 2099/L Human Physiology with Lab (4)
- CGS 2060 Introduction to Microcomputers (3)* (or pass computer competency test)
- STA 3145 Statistics for Health Professions (3) or STA 2122 Introduction to Statistics (3)*
- ACG 2021 accounting for Decisions (3) (Accounting 1)
- ACG 2071 Accounting for Planning & Control (3) (Accounting 2)
Progression:
- Earn a minimum grade of ‘B’ or better in all required upper division courses.
- Students with less than a grade of ‘B’ in two required upper division courses will be subject to dismissal from the program.
Graduation:
- A minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA.
- A minimum grade of ‘B’ or better in all required Upper Division courses.
Upper Division Requirements (60 credits)
• Earn a grade of ‘B’ or better in each class with a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA.

Coding Certificate Program
Coding Certificate Program
Students must be admitted to the Coding Certificate Program by the Health Information Management Program Director (or designated coordinator), who will also act as their faculty advisor. Those students who wish to apply for the bachelors degree in HIM, and are admitted, may have their certificate courses credited towards completion of the Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Management.
Prerequisites: Human anatomy and physiology (6 credits, with a minimum grade of "B" obtained )
