Application Process


Degrees | Certificates | Dual Degree & Certificate | For Re-admission

PLEASE READ and closely follow the steps below to ensure that your application is complete. Only completed applications (with all supporting documentation) will be considered for admission.

International Students may have additional university admission requirements and should refer to International Student and Scholar Services for more information. Graduates with a bachelors in nursing degree from a foreign country must successfully pass the TOEFL examination (taken within the last 3 years). TOEFL exempt countries are listed here. Recommended transcript translation and evaluation services for foreign graduates are listed here.

Application for MSN-NP Degrees


STEP 1 - Submit an application to Nursing CAS (The Centralized Application Service for Nursing Programs)

  • Complete an online application via Nursing CAS http://www.nursingcas.org and pay the appropriate fee to Nursing CAS.  (Applications will be accepted from Dec 1, 2013 to March 1, 2014 for Fall 2014 admission.)
  • Complete the required FIU supplemental application and pay the $30 fee.
  • Send official transcripts from ALL SCHOOLS attended (all Associates & Bachelors degree coursework) to Nursing CAS for upload and verification. EXCEPTION: Foreign transcripts, along with their official evaluations (grades, credits, and GPA in U.S. terms), should be sent directly to the college at the following address: Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences, AHC3 – Rm. 121, 11200 S.W. 8th Street, Miami, FL, 33199
  • Upload all required supplemental items including three (3) professional nursing references, professional CV, copy of an active Florida RN License, and Personal Statement to Nursing CAS.

STEP 2 - Professional Interview

  • Following a review of all completed applications a select number of applicants will be offered the opportunity to participate in a panel interview.
  • Interview candidates may be instructed to bring an additional set of official transcripts to their interview appointment.

Application for Post-Master's NP or Nurse Educator Certificates


STEP 1 - Submit an application to Nursing CAS (The Centralized Application Service for Nursing Programs)

  • Complete an online application via Nursing CAS http://www.nursingcas.org and pay the appropriate fee to Nursing CAS.  (Applications will be accepted from Dec 1, 2013 to March 1, 2014 for Fall 2014 admission for the NP certificate and Summer 2014 admission for the Nurse Educator certificate.)
  • Complete the required FIU supplemental application and pay the $30 fee.
  • Send official transcripts from ALL SCHOOLS attended (all Associates & Bachelors degree coursework) to Nursing CAS for upload and verification. EXCEPTION: Foreign transcripts, along with their official evaluations (grades, credits, and GPA in U.S. terms), should be sent directly to the college at the following address: Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences, AHC3 – Rm. 121, 11200 S.W. 8th Street, Miami, FL, 33199
  • Upload all required supplemental items including a professional CV, a copy of an active Florida RN &/or ARNP License, and a Personal Statement to Nursing CAS.

STEP 2 - Professional Interview

  • Following a review of all completed applications a select number of applicants will be offered the opportunity to participate in a panel interview.
  • Interview candidates may be instructed to bring an additional set of official transcripts to their interview appointment.

Application for Dual MSN Degree & Nurse Educator Certificate


STEP 1 - Submit an application to Nursing CAS (The Centralized Application Service for Nursing Programs)

  • Complete an online application via Nursing CAS http://www.nursingcas.org for the MSN Nurse Practitioner track of your choice (Adult-Gero/Child/Family/Psych Mental Health) and pay the appropriate fee to Nursing CAS.  (Applications will be accepted from Dec 1, 2013 to March 1, 2014 for Fall 2014 admission.)
  • Complete the required FIU supplemental application and pay the $30 fee.
  • Send official transcripts from ALL SCHOOLS attended (all Associates & Bachelors degree coursework) to Nursing CAS for upload and verification. EXCEPTION: Foreign transcripts, along with their official evaluations (grades, credits, and GPA in U.S. terms), should be sent directly to the college at the following address: Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences, AHC3 – Rm. 121, 11200 S.W. 8th Street, Miami, FL, 33199
  • Upload all required supplemental items including three (3) professional nursing references, professional CV, copy of an active Florida RN License, and Personal Statement* to Nursing CAS.
    *In your Personal Statement indicate your interest in the Dual NP & Nurse Educator Certificate program.

STEP 2 - Professional Interview

  • Following a review of all completed applications a select number of applicants will be offered the opportunity to participate in a panel interview.
  • Interview candidates may be instructed to bring an additional set of official transcripts to their interview appointment.

STEP 3 - Application to Nurse Educator Certificate

  • If you are selected for admission to the MSN NP program you will be asked to complete a FIU Graduate School application for the Nurse Educator certificate.

For Re-admission


Admitted degree-seeking students who have not enrolled at the University for one full academic year or more must reapply for admission to the University Graduate School and NWCNHS MSN program (see steps above for admission), as well as meet all current competitive admission requirements.

NOTE: Florida International University and Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences' policies, procedures, requirements and regulations are continually subject to review in order to serve the needs of the University/College's publics and to respond to the mandates of the Florida Department of Education, Board of Governors, the Legislature, and other regulatory and accrediting agencies. Changes in programs, policies, procedures, requirements, and regulations may be made without advance notice.
