Experience in a clinical setting is a vital part of the comprehensive learning process for all students of the FIU Nursing Department. The Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences (NWCNHS) has cultivated strong partnerships and affiliations with many local medical facilities representing a variety of health care delivery settings so that our students can become accustomed to real workplace environments; enhance their knowledge base by working alongside top healthcare professionals; and benefit from the hands-on learning that is possible when they can apply theoretical skills into practice.

Clinical placement opportunities differ between the Undergraduate and Graduate Nursing Divisions. Undergraduate nursing students are assigned in groups for clinical placement with an instructor at a particular facility. Graduate nursing students are assigned individual clinical placements under the supervision of a nurse preceptor.  In all cases, FIU nursing students are expected to understand and follow the appropriate clinical education policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines set forth by the NWCNHS Nursing Department as well as the partner facilities.

Background Checks & Screenings

All FIU Nursing students must submit to background checks, fingerprint searches, drug screenings and immunization tracking in order to engage in clinical practice.  Online forms and registration for these requirements are available through FIU Express.
