I am an applicant who has a medical degree from a foreign country. Am I required to complete FIU’s core curriculum, Gordon rule, and CLAST (general education requirements)?
It depends on the evaluation of your documents.  A memorandum from the FIU Office of Admissions on August 6, 1998 stated that a foreign medical degree is considered a first degree after high school, and is equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, especially in Latin America. Therefore, potential students who are applying for a second Bachelor's degree will have fulfilled their general education requirements. Applicants must provide official documents that will be evaluated by FIU Office of Admissions.

What is the procedure for obtaining an English translation of my foreign transcript(s)?
Arrange to have an original transcript from your foreign medical school translated to English and evaluated at the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Click on the following link: Foreign Educated Physician MD-BSN Track/ Admission Information

What prerequisite courses are required for the Foreign Educated Physician-BSN track?

Can I make application to the Foreign Educated Physician-BSN track while I am completing my prerequisite courses?

What is the procedure for selection of applicants for the Foreign Educated Physician-BSN track? The track has limited enrollment program and uses a competitive admission process. To be considered for admission, applicants must have met all general education and nursing prerequisite requirements, have met entry requirements for computation and reading skills, have completed an interview, and be recommended for admission by the Undergraduate Nursing Admissions Committee.

If I meet all the admission requirements, am I assured admission to the track?
No. The track is highly competitive and has limited enrollment due to Florida Board of Nursing regulations and agency requirements. The student/faculty ratio is mandated to protect patient safety in the clinical setting.

If I have a sponsoring hospital, am I required to work at the hospital after I graduate?
Yes. The hospital will require you to sign a contract to work in that facility for a specified period of time.

What are the costs of the track?
In addition to undergraduate tuition and fees, nursing students are charged an additional fee of $83/credit hour for clinical courses (courses with an L suffix). The additional fee supports clinical instructional costs, a testing program, and laboratory/technology supplies and costs.

Is financial assistance available?
Yes. For information on whether you qualify for financial aid through FIU, click on the following link: FIU Financial Aid   For scholarships available through the University, click on the following link: FIU Scholarships  For nursing scholarships, see Scholarships on the CNHS menu bar.

No. The track is “lock-step.” All entering students proceed as a class through the program to graduation.

Are the courses online?
No. But many courses are web-enhanced. For web-enhanced courses, a portion of the course (notes, quizzes, discussions) uses computer technology to deliver the course.
