Financial Aid

Updated 6/01/09

The Department participates in all the Financial Aid programs offered by the University.  Go to the FIU Financial Aid Office for further information.

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences offers a small number of scholarships for currently enrolled students, and participates in the federal government's Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS) program.

Applications are not available until after the school year begins.

The Department usually funds several graduate assistantships (GA) each year.  GA positions pay a modest stipend and provide a tuition waiver; and require working 10 to 20 hours per week.  The number of assistantships per year varies dependent on funding sources but ranges from 2 to 6..

Assistantships are distributed on the basis of merit, with the matching of the assistant's skills and the specific teaching and research needs of the department. Applications can be downloaded and should be submitted by July 1, 2009 for graduate assistant positions and will be distributed to students who are fully admitted by June 15th. Notification of awards will be made when the annual budget is finalized, which usually occurs just before the beginning of the term.

Assistantships typically do not cover summer terms, or terms that include clinical internships.
