We strongly urge all prospective students to attend an Information Session at the Modesto A. Maidique Campus (MMC), followed by an individual advising appointment. Call 305-348-7703 and follow the prompts to your program of interest to register.

Bring copies of all transcripts to the advising appointment for evaluation of deficiencies in state-mandated requirements and/or nursing prerequisites.

Transfer & International Students Only: Apply to FIU First

Applicants not yet fully admitted to FIU must first complete and submit the FIU Undergraduate Application for Fall semester admission, with the required application fee and submission of official transcripts directly to the university. Applicants should choose the Nursing-BSN Track when applying.

If you meet general FIU Admissions criteria for a Transfer Students with 60 credits or more, your application will be deferred pending the College’s decision.

Step-by-Step Application

  • Step 1: Complete Prerequisites
    • Prerequisites are listed under the Generic BSN Admission Requirements.
    • You MUST complete the required prerequisite courses and general education requirements (UCC) by the end of the Spring semester to be eligible for Fall admission.
    • NO FAILURES (C- or below) are allowed in the science prerequisites – even if successfully repeated for a passing grade.
  • Step 2: Create a NursingCAS Account
    • FIU Nursing uses a fully online platform for all applications through NursingCAS – Centralized Application Service for Nursing Programs.
    • Go to to create your account in order to submit your application.
  • Step 3: Take TEAS Exam
    • The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) from ATI is required of all Generic BSN and Accelerated Option BSN applicants. Absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS.
    • TEAS must be taken at any one of the following testing sites (contact directly to schedule):
      1. FIU Testing Center (testing fee applicable)
        • Modesto A. Maidique Campus, GL-120 | Ph: 305-348-2840
        • Biscayne Bay Campus, AC 1-160 | Ph: 305-919-5754
      2. Another accredited college or university testing center nationwide
      3. PSI Testing Centers around the country
    • FIU only accepts the TEAS Edition VI. The computer-based exam is standardized, timed, multiple choice and comprised of the following sections1: Reading, Mathematics, Sciences and English & Language Usage (1There are an additional 20 unscored pretest items distributed proportionately across the four sections).
    • Schedule to take the test with adequate time to obtain test results prior to the application deadline.
    • FIU Nursing only permits two (2) attempts per application cycle, with at least 30 days between the first and second attempt.
  • Step 4: Record Video Essay
    • Record a 3-minute video essay to include the URL in the application packet
      • Clearly state FULL NAME and Panther ID at the beginning of the video.
      • Dress appropriately and present a professional image.
      • Answer these three (3) questions:
        1. What does nursing mean to you, and why did you decide to pursue a career in nursing?
        2. Describe any personal experiences and/or characteristics that you believe will make you a better nurse.
        3. How do you see yourself impacting your community and/or the nursing profession upon graduation?
    • Duration cannot exceed three (3) minutes
    • Record at 480p resolution or higher
    • Upload to YouTube with privacy setting of “unlisted” (See Instructions)
    • Format the video file name: LAST NAME, FIRST NAME and PANTHER ID (e.g., Smith, John PID#######)
    • Please include your video link on your NursingCAS application; you will be asked a required question to provide the link prior to submitting the application. Please make sure the link is correct and has no errors; it's best to copy and paste it into the answer box for the question.
  • Step 5: Submit Application via NursingCAS by Deadline
    1. Submit the entire application packet via NursingCAS and pay the appropriate fees. Applications will be accepted from Dec. 15 to March 15 for Fall admission. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
    2. Please make sure to copy and paste your video link from YouTube directly into the answer box in the required question section where you are asked for your link. We will be unable to review your application if you do not provide a link!
    3. Send one (1) copy of each official transcript from every college, university or professional school attended in a sealed envelope to NursingCAS directly.
      • Transfer Students: Also send official transcripts to FIU Undergraduate Admissions.
    4. Upload official PDF results of ATI TEAS (Edition VI) test scores to the NursingCAS application. Results can be obtained and downloaded into PDF format from your personal ATI account.
      • NOTE: if the exam is taken twice, you must submit both official test scores
    5. Upload Extracurricular Activity Documentation. Signed statement on official letterhead including dates, number of hours and job/volunteer duties. Contact name, title, email and phone number for references must be included. All supporting documents MUST be uploaded to the NursingCAS application.

    Applicants who previously applied but were not accepted to the program must resubmit a new application packet for consideration with the next application cycle.
