Bilingualism Laboratory

Director: Alfredo Ardila

Considering that bilingualism represents a major social characteristic at South Florida in general and FIU in particular, Dr. Alfredo Ardila proposed the development of a Center for the Study of Bilingualism at the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders with the specific purposes of:

  • Promoting fundamental and clinical research in bilingualism, with special emphasis on Spanish/English and Haitian Creole/English bilingualism;
  • Approaching the speech/language disorders in bilingual populations;
  • Investigating the social, cultural and psychological aspects of bilingualism;
  • Becoming a reference center for issues related to bilingualism.

It is expected that this Center will contribute to furthering the understanding of bilingualism in normal and abnormal conditions.
