Dear prospective student/visitor,
We are pleased to know that you are here exploring our Occupational Therapy program at Florida International University (FIU). Occupational therapy (OT) is a vibrant and growing profession that makes it possible for people to achieve functional independence and to enjoy “life to its fullest”. OT as a profession has been ranked #11 amongst “The 100 Best Jobs” for 2013 by U.S. News & World Report and also ranked #7 in the “Best Jobs for 2012” (Forbes, 2012).
The mission of FIU’s Occupational Therapy Department is to establish excellence in occupational therapy education, research and scholarly activities, and to actively engage in community partnerships; we prepare culturally competent entry level practitioners to provide evidence-based occupational therapy services to the community. Our department is located in an 114,929 square feet state-of-the-art building where students practice hands-on skills in our medical simulation labs. Students have clinical internship opportunities locally and throughout the nation. Our main program is entry level professional Master's program for undergraduates in various disciplines who completed the required prerequisites. We also offer a completely online post-professional program for occupational therapists with a bachelor’s degree.
We invite you to attend one of our regular advising sessions. If you choose to come for an advising session, please look at the admission information section for the available dates. If you are out of the area or unable to attend a session and have any additional questions, please contact our department office at 305-348-2922 to be directed to a faculty advisor.
Please peruse our website at your own pace as there are many important information that we would like to share with you. Also, please do not forget to check out our recent newsletter for more updated information about our department. We look forward to hearing from you!
