Curriculum

The Graduate Certificate Program in Communication Sciences & Disorders (CSD) is designed for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree in a discipline different from Communication Sciences & Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology.

The 28-credit Program of Study consists of ten (10) prerequisite courses in speech, language, and hearing senses and development. Students must successfully complete all prerequisite courses with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum grade of “C” in each class.

Students in the Graduate Certificate in CSD track are required to be continuously enrolled in at least two courses per semester (except when taking the last course in the certificate program). All students are required to complete the certificate within four continuous semesters, which includes summer semesters.

These prerequisites are offered only to those who have applied and been admitted into the Graduate Certificate in CSD program. Students who completed their undergraduate degree at FIU must still apply and be admitted to the program to take the courses.

All courses are typically offered every semester, including summers. These courses meet the requirements to apply for the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MS-SLP) degree program. A minimum grade of “B” is required in certificate courses that are eligible for transfer to the MS-SLP (SPA 6322 Aural Habilibation and Rehabilitation). However, please note that successful completion of the certificate does not guarantee acceptance into the MS-SLP program.
