Evert Verhagen, PhD

Evert is a human movement scientist and epidemiologist. He holds a University Research Chair as a full professor at the Department of Public and Occupational Health at the Amsterdam UMC and the Amsterdam Movement Science Research Institute. He chairs the department's research theme 'Sports, Lifestyle and Health', is the director of the Amsterdam Collaboration on Health and Safety in Sports (ACHSS - one of the 11 recognized IOC research centers), and co-director of the Amsterdam Institute of Sports Sciences (AISS). He obtained his PhD in Medicine from VU University in 2004, which he followed up with 15 years of research experience at the VU University Medical Center. His research revolves around the prevention of sports and physical activity related injuries; including monitoring, cost-effectiveness and implementation issues. He is the author of over 200 peer-reviewed publications. In addition to being Deputy Editor for JSAMS, Evert is also an Associate Editor for the British Journal of Sports Medicine and BMJ Open Sports & Exercise Medicine, and an Editorial Board member for the Journal of Athletic Training and Injury Epidemiology.
