Below are the step-by-step application processes for the FIU Accelerated Option (AO) BSN program for traditional students seeking a second bachelor's and for foreign educated physicians seeking BSN degrees. Please choose a suitable process and follow the application requirements to apply to the AO BSN track.

Steps for a traditional student seeking a second bachelor's degree

All students: Apply to FIU First

Applicants must first complete and submit the FIU Undergraduate Application for Fall semester admission, with the required application fee and submission of official transcripts directly to the university. Applicants should choose the Nursing-AO BSN Track when applying. Since this is a limited access program, your application will be deferred pending the College’s decision.

  • Step 1: Encouraged to Meet with an AO Advisor
    • Make an appointment (in person or by phone) with the AO BSN Advisor or call 305-348-7709 to register to attend an Information Session at the Modesto A. Maidique Campus (MMC).
    • Bring copies of all unofficial transcripts (from all schools) to your advisement appointment or the information session. Our advisors will review your transcripts to determine track eligibility and prerequisite completion.
  • Step 2: Complete Prerequisites
    • Prerequisites are listed under the AO BSN Admission Requirements.
    • ALL prerequisites must be completed by the end of the Spring A semester to be eligible for admission for the Fall term. Degree must be completed by no later than the end of the Spring A term of the year in which you apply.
    • Minimum cumulative 3.25 GPA for all Nursing prerequisite courses. All prerequisites must be passed with a C or higher.
  • Step 3: Take TEAS Exam
    • The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) from ATI is required of all Generic BSN and Accelerated Option BSN applicants. Absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS.
    • TEAS must be taken In Person at any one of the following testing sites (contact directly to schedule):
      • FIU Testing Center (testing fee applicable)
      • Another accredited college or university testing center nationwide
      • PSI Testing Centers around the country
      • You can also visit: atitesting.com for other locations.
    • Any applicant testing after 4/16/2024 is required to test 'In-Person'. Remote proctored exams will no longer be accepted with a test date of 4/16/2024 or after.
    • FIU only accepts the ATI TEAS (other exams are not allowed and will disqualify your application). The computer-based exam is standardized, timed, multiple choice and comprised of the following sections: Reading, Mathematics, Sciences and English & Language Usage
    • Schedule to take the test with adequate time to obtain test results prior to the application deadline.
    • FIU Undergraduate Nursing only permits two (2) attempts per application cycle. Please note that the FIU Testing Center requires a 30 day wait period between TEAS attempts, not FIU Undergraduate Nursing.
    • Please note that the ATI TEAS is changing to Version VII on June 3rd, 2022. As a reminder, scores are valid for two years.
  • Step 4: Create a NursingCAS Account
  • Step 5: Submit Application via NursingCAS by Deadline
    • Submit the entire application packet via NursingCAS and pay the appropriate fees. The application cycle runs from November 15th to February 15th.
    • Send one (1) copy of each official transcript from every college, university or professional school attended in a sealed envelope to NursingCAS directly.
