Semester 1 (9 credits)
ATR 7630 DAT Applied Scholarship I (3 credits): This course is one in a series of three courses designed to introduce one to applied scholarship. The purpose of this course is to critically analyze the components of translational research as it relates to clinical practice. Areas and types of research will guide one through understanding how clinically relevant research questions are developed, studied, and implemented into practice.
ATR 7806 DAT Capstone Project (12 credits): These sequential courses require students to develop an Individualized Specialization Plan chosen from either the Educational Leadership or Entrepreneurial Leadership Core track to deepen one’s understanding of the profession, enhance critical thinking ability, and further develop a specialized body of knowledge and skills under the guidance of faculty and leaders in the profession who are experts in specialty fields. These sequential classes culminate in a capstone project.
ATR 6507 Entrepreneurial Leadership in Athletic Training (3 credits): This course is designed to examine entrepreneurial leadership and business strategies specifically related to the profession of athletic training. Topics that will be covered include characteristics associated with entrepreneurism, innovation, and identifying niches.
Semester 2 (9 credits)
ATR 7631 DAT Applied Scholarship II (3 credits): This course is one in a series of three courses designed to introduce one to applied scholarship. The purpose of this course is to describe the publication process for poster and presentation submission for local, State, regional, National, and International journals and conferences.
ATR 7806 DAT Capstone Project (12 credits): These sequential courses require students to develop an Individualized Specialization Plan chosen from either the Educational Leadership or Entrepreneurial Leadership Core track to deepen one’s understanding of the profession, enhance critical thinking ability, and further develop a specialized body of knowledge and skills under the guidance of faculty and leaders in the profession who are experts in specialty fields. These sequential classes culminate in a capstone project.
ATR 6546 Successful Business Strategies in AT (3 credits): This course addresses the various strategies associated with establishing a business structure, creating a market for one’s business, management and leadership principles, and other critical components of starting and operating a successful business venture.
Semester 3 (6 credits)
ATR 7632 DAT Applied Scholarship III (3 credits): This course is one in a series of three courses designed to introduce one to applied scholarship. The purpose of this course is to prepare one to critically analyze both qualitative and quantitative literature as it relates to clinical practice and academia. Small Grant funding will also be introduced.
ATR 6555 Academic Leadership (3 credits): This course addresses leadership styles most beneficial for athletic trainers working in a secondary school or college/University setting. Issues pertaining to human resources, personnel, supervision, performance appraisal, promotion and tenure, and others are discussed.ATR XXXX Academic Leadership (3 credits): This course addresses leadership styles most beneficial for athletic trainers working in a secondary school or college/University setting. Issues pertaining to human resources, personnel, supervision, performance appraisal, promotion and tenure, and others are discussed.

Semester 4 (9 credits)
ATR 6547 Financial Planning for Athletic Training (3 credits): This course is specifically designed for the athletic training student to learn how to build a financial portfolio as it relates to professional and personal goals.
ATR 7806 DAT Capstone Project (12 credits): These sequential courses require students to develop an Individualized Specialization Plan chosen from either the Educational Leadership or Entrepreneurial Leadership Core track to deepen one’s understanding of the profession, enhance critical thinking ability, and further develop a specialized body of knowledge and skills under the guidance of faculty and leaders in the profession who are experts in specialty fields. These sequential classes culminate in a capstone project.
ATR 6556 Curricular Planning & Development (3 credits): This course will introduce the athletic training student to necessary components of planning and developing a curriculum. Topics will include writing course syllabi, programmatic and regional accreditation, curricular sequencing, inter-professional education, and exam writing.
Semester 5 (9 credits)
ATR 6557 Navigating Academia (3 credits): This foundational course introduces the athletic training student to the structure and governance of a college/University academic setting. Common terms, titles, roles, expectations are discussed. The components of teaching, scholarship, service, advising and other critical expectations are included.
ATR 7806 DAT Capstone Project (12 credits): These sequential courses require students to develop an Individualized Specialization Plan chosen from either the Educational Leadership or Entrepreneurial Leadership Core track to deepen one’s understanding of the profession, enhance critical thinking ability, and further develop a specialized body of knowledge and skills under the guidance of faculty and leaders in the profession who are experts in specialty fields. ATR 6548 Athletic Training Consulting (3 credits): This course identifies the various opportunities for athletic trainers to consult within and outside the profession by developing the skills required to successfully offer a service, product, or information to benefit others in return for equitable remuneration.
Semester 6 (6 credits)
ATR 7955 Athletic Training Globalization (3 credits): Global initiatives are an important contemporary goal of the athletic training profession. This unique class prepares the athletic training student to develop competency in cultural awareness. Students develop a global awareness project that has the option of including International travel.
ATR 6558 Teaching & Learning Strategies (3 credits): This class focuses on common methods implemented the learning environment. Various teaching and learning style inventories will be introduced and analyzed for different settings and audiences. Students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience and reflect on best practices.
