Clinical Education

Experience in a clinical setting is vital to the comprehensive learning process for all FIU Nursing students. As an FIU Graduate Nursing student, your knowledge base is further enhanced by working alongside top healthcare professionals to gain deeper understanding from their example and expertise.

Our designated clinical department assists students with one-on-one clinical placements.

We’ve cultivated strong partnerships with many area healthcare delivery facilities to gives students in each of our nurse practitioner tracks the opportunity to enjoy flexible clinical experiences in a variety of clinical locations. Whether ambulatory or acute care settings, clinics and health centers, students work with preceptor nurse practitioners and physicians in general and specialty practices to complete the required clinical hours within their specialty scope of practice.

Total clinical rotation hours are the same for degree and post-master’s certificate tracks, but vary by clinical specialty as follows:

  • Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner 1170
  • Family Nurse Practitioner 1310
  • Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner 1170
  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner 1170

Refer to the FIU Graduate Nursing student handbooks and the college's Clinical & Fieldwork resources to prepare you for the FIU Nursing clinical education experience.
