All NP Specialty Tracks

FIU’s graduate-level nurse practitioner (NP) degree and certificate programs are limited enrollment and admission is highly COMPETITIVE. Requirements for entry are extensive, with additional conditions specific to transfer and international students.

Admission Requirements

  • Successful completion of all the admission requirements for graduate education at Florida International University and the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences.
  • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale (GPA calculation inclusive of all academic coursework including courses at the community college level).
  • UG 60 GPA of 3.0 or greater in Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) upper division coursework.
  • Current State of Florida RN license. Out-of-state students must obtain a license to practice in Florida prior to admission.
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from a program accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Applicants from programs without such accreditation will be considered on an individual basis.
  • Completion of all FIU Graduate Nursing admission paperwork including:
    1. NursingCAS application
    2. FIU Grad Application Fee via www.my.fiu.edu(You will need a student ID to complete this step)
    3. Written essay
    4. Three (3) professional reference letters
    5. Curriculum Vitae
  • Favorable personal interview with the FIU Graduate Nursing Admission Committee.

Transfer & International Students

Transfer and international students must meet additional university requirements before proceeding with an application. Visit the FIU Graduate School website for details.

In addition to the program admission requirements, graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a foreign nursing school must:

  • Comply with all International Student requirements as per FIU’s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).
  • Meet the University Graduate School English-language proficiency requirements (TOEFL, IELTS, AA or BA from a U.S. school) if native language is not English.
    • TOEFL examination requirement - a score of 550 or higher on the written examination or 213 or higher on the computerized examination.
    • IELTS examination requirement - a score of 6.5 or higher.
  • Obtain a Florida RN license prior to starting any clinical nursing courses.
