FTIC Pre-Nursing Pathway at FIU

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at FIU is a limited access and highly competitive program. Students typically apply for full admission after completing prerequisite courses, an entrance exam, and other requirements.

FIU offers a Pre-Nursing Pathway for First Time in College (FTIC) applicants to help guide their journey toward full admission into the BSN program.

Your Path to Becoming a Nurse Starts Here

The FIU Pre-Nursing Pathway is designed for First-Time-in-College (FTIC) students ho aspire to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Whether you are admitted directly into the Pre-Nursing major or begin through the Pre-Nursing Pathway, FIU provides a structured route toward one of Florida's most competitive nursing programs.

  • Step 1 — At admissions

    Two possible paths

Apply via Common App and select Nursing as your intended major. You must also pick one of the approved alternate majors.

    • Health Services Administration
    • Liberal Studies – Health & Human Concern
    • Rehabilitation & Recreational Therapy
    • Psychology
    • Social Work
    • Exploratory / NURHS

Note: Students can only be assigned to a “Pre-Nursing” major or pathway at the time of admission to FIU. Students cannot switch into a “Pre-Nursing” major or pathway from a different major. Students will only be considered for Pre-nursing designation during Fall.

    Outcome A — Direct admit

“Pre‑Nursing” major in the BSN program

A limited number of FTICs are admitted directly into the BSN program as "Pre-Nursing" majors. Meet all academic milestones and you may progress automatically — no separate NursingCAS application needed.

    Outcome B — Pathway track

Alternate major + “Pre‑Nursing Pathway” designation

You're placed in your alternate major with a Pre‑Nursing Pathway flag. After completing prerequisites, meeting all academic milestones, and other requirements, you may apply for full BSN admission via NursingCAS. Admission is competitive and not guaranteed.

  • Step 2 — While enrolled

    Academic milestones

Both paths share the same required milestones. Both paths share access to the pre-requisite courses and the same required milestones.

To remain eligible for progression in the pre-requisite courses, you must meet the following minimum requirement milestones. If you miss any of the milestones will be redirected out of pre-nursing major/ pathway designation and will be ineligible to apply for full admission to the BSN.
