Advising and Information Session Details

We strongly urge all prospective students to attend an Information Session at the Modesto A. Maidique Campus (MMC), followed by an individual advising appointment. Call 305-348-7703 and follow the prompts to your program of interest to register.

Bring copies of all transcripts to the advising appointment for evaluation of deficiencies in state-mandated requirements and/or nursing prerequisites.

Transfer & International Students Only: Apply to FIU First

Applicants not yet fully admitted to FIU must first complete and submit the FIU Undergraduate Application for Fall semester admission, with the required application fee and submission of official transcripts directly to the university. Applicants should choose the Nursing-BSN Track when applying.

If you meet general FIU Admissions criteria for a Transfer Students with 60 credits or more, your application will be deferred pending the College’s decision.

Step-by-Step Application

  • Step 1: Complete Prerequisites
    • Prerequisites are listed under the Traditional BSN Admission Requirements.
    • You MUST complete the required prerequisite courses and general education requirements (UCC) by the end of the Spring semester to be eligible for Fall admission. If applying for Spring, finish prerequisites by end of Summer. However, applicants may ONLY have up to two prerequisites in progress at the time of application submission. Finally, all science prerequisites must be finished by the time the application is submitted.
    • Applicants must receive a grade of “C” or better for all nursing prerequisite courses. Students earning a grade of “C minus” or below in any science prerequisite course may repeat that course only once. A student who earns a grade of “C minus” or below in any science pre-requisite course for a second time will be redirected to another major within FIU. Advisement relative to other majors/options will be provided.
  • Step 2: Take TEAS Exam
    • The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) from ATI is required of all Traditional BSN and Accelerated Option BSN applicants. Absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS.
    • TEAS must be taken In Person at any one of the following testing sites (contact directly to schedule):
      • FIU Testing Center (testing fee applicable)
      • Another accredited college or university testing center nationwide
      • PSI Testing Centers around the country
      • You can also visit: atitesting.com for other locations.
    • Any applicant testing after 4/16/2024 is required to test 'In-Person'. Remote proctored exams will no longer be accepted with a test date of 4/16/2024 or after.
    • FIU only accepts the ATI TEAS (other exams are not allowed and will disqualify your application). The computer-based exam is standardized, timed, multiple choice and comprised of the following sections1: Reading, Mathematics, Sciences and English & Language Usage (1There are an additional 20 unscored pretest items distributed proportionately across the four sections).
    • Schedule to take the test with adequate time to obtain test results prior to the application deadline.
    • FIU Undergraduate Nursing only permits two (2) attempts per application cycle. Please note that the FIU Testing Center requires a 30 day wait period between TEAS attempts, not FIU Undergraduate Nursing.
    • Upload official Individual Performance Profile PDF document of ATI TEAS (Edition VII) test scores to the NursingCAS application. Results can be obtained and downloaded into PDF format from your personal ATI account.
    • Please note that the ATI TEAS is changing to Version VII on June 3rd, 2022. As a reminder, scores are valid for two years.
  • Step 3: Create a NursingCAS Account
  • Step 4: Apply to FIU
    • Complete the online FIU Undergraduate Application for admission to the corresponding Spring or Fall semester.
    • Send official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended to:

    Florida International University
    Office of Undergraduate Admissions
    P.O. Box 659003
    Miami, FL 33265-9003

  • Step 5: Submit Application via NursingCAS by Deadline
    1. Submit the entire application via NursingCAS and pay the appropriate fees. Applications will be accepted from August 1st to May 1st for Fall (August) admission and from January 1st to September 1st for Spring (January) admission. Any application submitted after these stated dates will be considered for the following available term. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
