My aunt has a PhD in education, which prompted me to continue my education into grad school. I chose Florida International University because of its proximity to my home and its reputation for academic excellence. I had some great experiences, and I had some bad experiences that always motivated me to improve myself and go further. I have the highest respect for FIU's nursing program, and I was able to gain vast knowledge from my clinical experience at some of the top hospitals in the city. The most outstanding experience for me was going to the Jackson Memorial Hospital and training in the emergency room on the night shift. It was an amazing experience because there were so many things going on, and I learned more than any other facility would have offered. I saw everything, and I was able to learn many things. I am a mentor, and I have a great job at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. I've been there for two years, but I've been recognized by the hospital on their website for the work I do in the community. I'm on the board of the Black Women Leaders in Nursing organization that does volunteer medical missions to the Caribbean. FIU prepared me for service, which is something I've always loved.
