I was invited by my best friend to participate in the first nurse practitioner program at FIU. One of my colleagues eventually told me that I needed to go back and get my master's degree in nursing, which is why I went back to school. After I got that degree, many doors opened up to me in terms of consulting. It was amazing to see just how much my career changed after I got my master's degree. It enhanced my ability to serve the underserved. I have to reflect on the instructors at FIU who acted as my cheerleaders. I'm grateful that they were able to recognize something in me, even when I was questioning myself.
