I was going to nursing school at the University of Miami and was having a problem there, but I was accepted into FIU. It was very interesting that the head of the department was a former teacher I had at San Francisco State University. He helped me transfer into the school, which I greatly appreciated. I got involved in nursing because of my experience in a foreign country. I worked as a volunteer at a state hospital in Peru, and I decided to go to San Francisco State University for nursing. I graduated from there in 1989, and attended FIU to get my ARPN. It's been an interesting journey. I appreciated the fact that I was even allowed to transfer to FIU. I liked the teachers, and I got good grades. It was a positive experience for me in contrast to U of M.
