I liked the way the program at FIU was designed. It was a wonderful experience because there were a lot of students who were coming together while working. We got together in the afternoons to get our classwork done. Clinical was on our own, and it was wonderful to participate in the experiences that were available to us. I went into private practice, and I remember Dr. Grossman coming to my office one day because she was interested in the alternative way I do healthcare. I work on plant-based medicine for people all over the planet. FIU was an open and accepting place. I got excellent conventional training that every nurse practitioner needs. We were able to choose what we wanted to do for clinical, and we were taught everything. We had a lot of responsibility as students, and we were held accountable to reach an excellent standard. I earned my BSN and MSN through FIU, and before I came, I had a bachelor of science from Cornell University. I did a fair amount of published research while I was there, so I was a different type of student coming in, and it was nice to be recognized for that. I was invited back to FIU to develop and teach a class on holistic nursing, which was wonderful. I've since put together a council for holistic nurses.
