CAPT Margaret "Peggy" A. Jones, BSN, CCRN

BSN '78

I was a charge nurse in the intensive care unit at Mercy Hospital before going to FIU Nursing. I learned that nursing gives many opportunities for various positions. When it came down to getting practical nursing experience, they put me in a halfway house, and that was a memorable part of the program for me. It was something I hadn't been exposed to out in the community. It was interesting to be a college kid and learn what higher education had to offer. We lived together in a nurse's residence day in and day out, so we became like sisters throughout the year. We were trained in the medical college along with the medical students. We had another program in Miami, and I was in the well-baby clinic. I liked being back in a hospital and seeing what was going on in the community.
