I chose to attend the FIU College of Nursing because it was the closest program near me. I enjoyed my classes. I learned leadership skills. We did public health at FIU. I had a wonderful experience. My first job was at an acute care facility. I worked in different areas, including Med-Surg. I worked my way up to supervisor. I worked at that acute care facility for ten years. Then I worked for a couple of private agencies. I worked in public health nursing. I was a school nurse for four years. Then the Department of Public Social Services started a program where they needed a nurse to do assessments of children. I worked there for 19 years until I retired. Without my previous nursing experience, I wouldn't have been able to do that job.
