Dr. Dana R. Sherman
I chose FIU Nursing because, at the time, it was one of the only nurse practitioner programs in South Florida. Dr. Lourdes Lizardo was very instrumental in recruiting me to go to FIU. She was one of the founding educators in the program. She was a fantastic role model and educator. I was working in the ICU at Mount Sinai, and she wanted me to start in the first class that they were going to have. I was pregnant, so I entered the second class of the Adult Nurse Practitioner Program. She was really wonderful. I have been connected as a preceptor at FIU since I graduated in 1999. I taught in both the Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner Programs, so I've been part of the fabric of FIU for quite a while. They have an amazing and unique group of professors and students at the university.
