I was a foreign physician from Cuba. When I started working at Kendall Regional, the hospital was sponsoring a program at FIU for foreign physicians to become nurses. I went straight to FIU because the hospital paid for my bachelor's degree. We had a group of foreign physicians, and we would get together. Several years after that, I started doing my master's degree. I was glad that I went straight through. I was working as a nurse aide, and 18 months later, I became a nurse because of my bachelor's degree. I'm very thankful for all of the professors I had at FIU; they helped me continue my career here in the United States. I now work for a company that has a contract with the hospital. I was given the opportunity to work as a nurse practitioner in pediatrics and the emergency room. FIU had a really good impact on me, and it helped me improve my life.
