I used to work nights, and I drove from Hollywood Memorial to the Florida International University South Campus. I've been a certified midwife for 42 years. When I was in nursing school, I decided I wanted to be an obstetrical nurse, and I decided to get my bachelor's degree in midwifery at FIU Nursing. After graduating, I went from South Florida to Brooklyn, New York. It took me 11 months to get my midwifery certificate, and it was a very interesting experience. We had to live in the dormitory, and we ate with the medical students. We had a good time. I ended up coming back to Florida and working for Jackson Memorial for ten years before going to Broward General for another 14 years. I've been in private practice since then, and I've mentored two midwifery students. My own daughter is also a nurse, and she worked as a case manager for the Veterans Administration.
