I was a foreign physician from Colombia. It made sense to me to get into this short program for foreign doctors to get licensed. I've always been in my private practice. I do alternative medicine, which is a field that is more required nowadays. My focus was to get my license in order to get my own business working. I wanted to make a difference. FIU Nursing was the obvious choice for me because I had friends and family members who went to FIU. For me, there was nothing to think about. I loved FIU. My nieces and my daughter went to FIU too. It was amazing. I appreciated the human interactions. In nursing, I felt that aspect. I needed that training since I had my own business and wanted to make a difference with my clients and their family members. The biggest impact was understanding different cultures. I was Colombian, but I learned how to address different communities and backgrounds. Miami was a pool for everybody, so that was a big step. I practiced in three different countries, and I found that FIU Nursing made a difference in my skills. It was because of the access to technology. It was a very rich experience. The human factor was important. With the administrators, professors, doctors, and nurses, the team was key. I have my own website, giancarlofalco.com. FIU opened the opportunity to bring people together and work in a system that cooperates. I can have a private practice in alternative medicine, and that's highly important today.
