I am from the Dominican Republic, and FIU Nursing had a dedicated program for foreign physicians, which was convenient for me. I was already living in Florida, so FIU Nursing was close to home. It also had a good reputation, which made it a great option for me. I really enjoyed my time there because all of my cohorts were all foreign physicians from different countries. We had people from Africa, Asia, and all walks of life. Some of us were older, and some were younger, but we had 35 of us in total. We all bonded well as a multicultural group, and it was a great experience. I learned a lot from my teachers and got to interact with many patients. I learned that a little compassion goes a long way when caring for patients. All of the friends I made in those years still keep in contact with me - we have a WhatsApp group.
