Florida International University was close to home, and it was convenient. I couldn't afford to go away to college, and being around my family was more important to me, so I stayed home. I originally wanted to be a pediatrician, but I ended up having a child really young, so I decided to become a nurse to get my feet into a well-paid profession quickly. I enjoyed being able to stay in the medical field. Nursing is so vast, and there are many things we can do. FIU offered a shuttle bus, and I took the bus with my friend. We would study and listen to audio tapes while we traveled, which was good.
