I had just moved back from Gainesville and was finishing up in Miami. It was the proximity as well as the pace of the program. It was the fastest accelerated program, and I wanted to get involved in nursing. I heard really good things about it from other friends who had been to FIU. They had nothing but good things to say about the school. My grandmother, mom, and brother were in nursing, so it was always in the back of my mind. It was always something I wanted to try. Once I was there, I ended up loving it. I commuted. I ended up choosing pediatrics as my favorite field. My clinical professor for the pediatric course was very passionate about the field. She stuck out to me as somebody who cared and had the biggest lasting impact on me. She worked at Nicklaus, so she was why I wanted to end up there as well. The entire program took a year and two months, so it was super fast. I need to get my nursing license still, and the bachelor's degree is the first step. To me, the hands-on experiences were better than the books. Dealing with the patients helped more than anything. Even though I might have been nervous, it taught me the best. Since I was prepared, there was nothing to be worried about.
