I had scholarships at four different colleges, and I was trying to decide between them. I decided on FIU because I could get a bachelor's degree, and the scholarship completely covered my tuition and books. It had the program on the Biscayne Bay campus at that time, which made it very convenient for me. Dr. Simunek was the dean and she was imminently qualified - not only was she a nurse practitioner, but she also had a law degree. She was really incredible and interesting, and she was very fair. After I was working on the floor, FIU had the Grow our Own Nurses Program - if you completed the program with at least a B average and teach for two years, the school would forgive your tuition. How could I turn that down? God has been incredibly good to me, and FIU was life changing for me. It was an incredible program. We also had the Foreign Physician Program, and sometimes my classrooms looked like the United Nations. We had people from all over the world there, and I learned so much from them - it was a very exciting time for me.
