FIU was one of the very few schools that offered foreign graduate students the opportunity to become nurse practitioners. FIU was very involved with the local community. I was in the mental health field, and I wanted to use what I learned to help others. I wanted to be a nurse in mental health because I wanted to provide a more intimate perspective. My professors were very supportive, and the support group that I had with the students was my greatest takeaway. My group wasn't very big, so we were able to build close relationships. Our professors had the time to contribute to our lives. They served as my references and as my psychotherapy providers.
