I've been a resident of Miami for a long time. I've seen FIU grow since the beginning. It started as an airport in the 1940s. Ever since, I've been observing how it's grown and wanted to be a part of that growth. That was why I joined FIU. It gave me pride that I was involved with the growth of FIU, as well as my growth as a student in nursing. It opened many roads for me and gave me a lot of insight into what nursing is all about. Above all, it has given me heart as I do my work as a nurse. That has been an invaluable reward, not only to myself but to my patients and to my community. I had some great teachers who really brought out the best in me. They gave me the opportunity to grow and fostered what I needed. It was an emotional process to grow and become the nurse that I am. One of my best nursing lessons was the art of hearing the patients. That's what I learned the most from my learning process at FIU. I'm grateful for the teachers that I've had at FIU. I've gone through other colleges and never found the teachers that I found there. They were outrageously talented individuals that could not be found anywhere. I would like to keep on growing as a nurse, but I have a family and I can't leave their side at this time. I would like to work online and be able to go to school.
