The main thing that attracted me to FIU was the motto of the program. It was based on cultural competency, and that attracted me a lot. We live in a very diverse community, so I was able to meet a lot of friends and students like me, as well as teachers. It was very fitting in that way. Also, the school is well-known. There are a lot of nursing programs out there, but they are not all built the same. The one at FIU was the one that really fit the bill for what I was looking for. The program was also appealing to me because of the length of time that I needed to spend there. I was looking for a time-efficient program. FIU's program was exactly what I was looking for. Nursing was one of the best careers that I had the privilege to get into. It's all about helping and serving. My wife was already a nurse, and she was telling me a lot about nursing: how it's a great world and a great community and about the things that we can do as nurses. All of those things combined with my attraction to healthcare brought me there. Since I graduated from FIU, I've only worked in critical care. I'm a family nurse practitioner.
