Laurie C. Sanders

MSN '98

I was precepting the APRN students in the GI Suite at Cleveland Clinic and was asked to give a lecture at FIU Nursing. I had a BSN and was in the top-five nurses in the country for my specialty. Dr. Terry Frock took me to dinner after my lecture and encouraged me to go to school. I was enrolled at FIU Nursing the next semester. I started back in school when my children were 4 and 6 years old. I was full-time mother and worked full-time during my stint at FIU Nursing. When I got to the clinical portion of nursing school, I changed to home health and was able to be a lot more flexible. I worked for Cleveland Clinic and Nurses Incorporated as an agency nurse. I graduated from FIU Nursing in 1998 and went to work in December 1998. I worked for six years in neurology under a Harvard-trained neurologist. I was his only backup for disasters at Plantation General Hospital. I finished my career under Dr. Oscar Mendez at Florida Medical Center.
