I always wanted to be better and add to my education in nursing. I just wanted to know more and do more in nursing so that I could be a better public servant or nurse. There were some challenges in life, but I prayed about it. Anyone going into any area of the medical field, particularly nursing, had to have a love for people. In high school, my father became ill. I felt like I needed to know more about his illness. I needed to be able to help my father in some way, and I wanted to give back because my father and mother gave us so much. His illness encouraged me to be a nurse and to get into the medical field at FIU Nursing. I was employed, so I had to work. I chose to receive my education online. I met one of my professors because the class required that we come in person. She was very inspirational. She shared her experiences with me and really encouraged me. I appreciated her feedback, which was very appreciative of my work. My education allowed me to think on another level and get out of the box. As a registered nurse, I learned a lot. I was able to pull from so many of the different courses I went through to get my degree. It allowed me to be more vocal as a professional, as a nurse, and as a family member. When I received information from FIU Nursing, I was out of school for at least a decade. I didn't know how I was going to do it financially, but the person in admissions encouraged me and said I could do it. They were patient and took the time to guide me if I didn't understand something. That was my experience from the beginning.
