I chose Florida International University because it was a prestigious school. The School of Nursing had very good reviews. I loved psychiatry, and I was able to do it on a fast track. I was from Cuba, and doctors in Cuba were pretty much like nurses here. They weren't different in knowledge, but they were focused on patient care. It was similar to that, and I enjoyed that aspect of nursing. My professors were very knowledgeable. They understood their students and did everything to help them. I worked in a nursing home setting at first, but now I'm working as a psychiatrist practitioner. It's incredible. With my education from FIU Nursing, I felt comfortable changing roles whenever I needed. I went back to college in my 40s, and it was amazing. I made a lot of wonderful; friends, who are still like my family.
