FIU was closest to me, and I was raising my two grandkids from my single-parent daughters. I was able to work, take care of my grandkids, and go to school at FIU. I attended a school in San Fernando, Trinidad, which was hospital-based training under the British system. I had three and a half years there, and I was a midwife. When I came to this country, I was already fully qualified, but I wanted to get my bachelor's degree. I enjoyed FIU, and I was the oldest one there. The professors and everybody in my classes were very nice. The other students treated me as a mom and a grandmother, and it was a pleasure to be there. I knew a lot of the things we covered, but I didn't know theory behind them, and FIU helped me with that. It was nice going to college and getting extra knowledge. The best thing was when my husband would bring the grandkids when he picked me up, and we would sit by the river. The whole environment was so beautiful. My two daughters followed in my footsteps.
