Norma A. Torres (Delgado)

BSN '74; BA '75; MS '75

I became a registered nurse in 1965. I took the license exam, and I passed. I knew that my mission in life was to help others. I got a master's degree in administration of adult education, and my professors at FIU never judged me for the questions that I asked. They were very personable and approachable. FIU prepared me with the credentials that I needed to become the nursing director of our local health department. I ended up being a health commissioner, and the master's degree that I got at FIU qualified me. I learned how to be a better researcher. I was introduced to public health and fell in love with it. I'm most grateful for the competent instructors that I had because they wanted to see me succeed.
