I'm a foreign physician, and I was a part of FIU's Foreign-Educated Physician to Nursing Program. Instead of going through the whole curriculum, we summarized the nursing education. There was a shortage of nurses, so I was able to jump right into the workforce as an RN. The program was a wonderful opportunity to insert my life into the medical field of the United States. Graduation was amazing. I'm from Cuba, and we didn't have those types of ceremonies in my country. Having so many people go through the same ceremony as me was incredible. I still have my graduation pictures, and looking at them always makes me feel happy. My degree from FIU's College of Nursing changed everything. I was able to find secure employment right away. I was the first in my family to validate my education in the United States, and many of my cousins followed after me. My daughter is attending FIU, and I'm very proud of her.
