Perla Ileana Zambrano, APRN

BSN '89; MSN '00

I grew up in Puerto Rico, and my whole family moved to Florida when I was 15. I always had a love for science and helping people, but I didn't want to be a doctor because I didn't want that commitment. I decided becoming a nurse would be a good compromise. Attending school was a very busy time. I learned how to be organized, which helped me. I was also in the honor society Phi Kappa Phi. It's been 31 years since I graduated, and I'm still practicing as a nurse practitioner in oncology care. Florida International University was my medical base. The school gave me a good understanding of pathophysiology disease practice. I also learned how to continue growing and learning. The teachers were excellent, and I had a wonderful experience. I am very proud that FIU has continued its growth. It is now a massive school known for many other professions, which is wonderful.
