I was looking at nurse practitioner programs, and I found FIU. It was the most in tune with my life at that time. I had small children, so I chose based on accessibility and scheduling. FIU met my needs the most. My bachelor's program is a blur, and I remember more from my master's program. I remember in the master's program, I had two very good professors. One of them was Dr. Lizardo, and she really made an impact on me as far as what I wanted to do in the future related to nursing. Most of us who were in the master's program had been in nursing for a while, and she was very approachable. Dr. Lizardo could relate to what we were going through, and she was an extremely intelligent nurse. I could tell that she was very caring. I went through the nurse practitioner program, but I have stayed in nursing leadership. Being in the master's program and learning advanced nursing skills helped me decide which route I wanted to go. I am presently in a doctoral program that's not at FIU, and I'll be graduating at the end of August. The foundation at FIU helped guide me through my nursing leadership career to get me to where I am. It was a great experience at FIU, and it definitely prepared me for what I wanted to do with nursing at the time.
