I was from Haiti, so when I got to the United States in 2010 for training, an earthquake happened. I couldn't go back, so I stayed here. I had a friend in the program who told me about FIU Nursing allowing a transition for foreign physicians to become nurse practitioners. I decided to get more information about the program and then ended up proceeding with it because I found it interesting. I liked most of my professors. There was one professor who stood out because she related to us. She was the main teacher during the transition track and was friendly. She had a passion for it. She remembered students even years later. I bumped into her at work once, and she still remembered me. I enjoyed the schooling; we did it as a family, as everyone in my cohort had the same background. My brother was in the program at the time as well. It helped me grow in different ways. What made me smile was when everything was over, looking at the time spent, the sacrifices made along the way, to see the happiness of my family around me after graduation.
