Award Winner
Dr. Guido-Sanz is a three-time alumnus of the NWCNHS, earning his master's (2003), post-master's certificate (2008), and doctoral (2014) degrees in nursing and a dually board-certified as an Adult and Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. He is currently a tenured Associate Professor and the Graduate Simulation Coordinator for the University of Central Florida College of Nursing.
Dr. Guido-Sanz is the co-inventor of the Multisensory Tactile-Visual Wound Simulation (TVW), a patented device developed with an interprofessional team of clinicians and computer and optic engineers. This device simulates a wound on a human being or manikin. It is used to train medical and nursing professionals on wound-related treatment skills, recognize life-threatening injuries, and facilitate faster interventions to improve outcomes.
Dr. Guido-Sanz's other two patents are on an Adaptive Visual Overlay for Anatomical Simulation that uses Augmented Reality. He has several additional patents pending on similar technologies. The development of these potentially life-saving technologies was supported through several U.S. Defense Health Agency projects, and as his nominator states, "can profoundly affect the care of injured military personnel and civilians globally."
Dr. Guido-Sanz has disseminated his findings in numerous peer-reviewed professional journals, book chapters, conference proceedings, and international and national presentations. He was recognized for his accomplishments by his induction as a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners in 2022.
His colleague states, "Dr. Guido-Sanz has used his education and skills to benefit others and, as a result, has gained access to technology and research opportunities achieved only by a few other NPs. His work has far-reaching effects in training the next generation of healthcare providers and promoting safe patient care."
