All NP Specialty Certificates Tracks

FIU’s graduate-level nurse practitioner (NP) degree and certificate programs are limited enrollment and admission is highly COMPETITIVE

Admission Requirements

  • Successful completion of all the admission requirements for graduate education at Florida International University and the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences.
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from a program accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Current Florida RN or ARNP license (as applicable).
  • Graduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Completion of all Post-Master’s Certificate admission paperwork including:
    1. NursingCAS application
    2. FIU Supplemental Application
    3. Written essay
    4. Three (3) professional reference letters
    5. Curriculum Vitae
  • Favorable panel interview with the FIU Graduate Nursing Admission Committee.

Additional Admission Requirements for the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Programs:

Adult-Gerontology

  • A minimum of 1 year of full-time employment in an acute care setting is required by the time of admission.
  • Experience in critical care, intermediate care, progressive care, or step-down is preferred

Pediatric

  • A minimum of 1 year of full-time employment in the direct care of pediatric patients in acute care settings as an RN within the last two years is required. Experience in critical care, intermediate care, progressive care, or stepdown is preferred or,
  • A minimum of 1 year of APRN experience in the direct care of pediatric patients within 2 years of application.
  • Preference will be given to applicants currently practicing as an APRN in a pediatric acute care setting and/or those with an extensive RN background in a pediatric critical care or stepdown setting.

In addition to the program admission requirements, graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a foreign nursing school must:

  • Comply with all International Student requirements as per FIU’s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).
  • Meet the University Graduate School English-language proficiency requirements (TOEFL, IELTS, AA or BA from a U.S. school) if native language is not English.
    • TOEFL examination requirement - a score of 550 or higher on the written examination or 213 or higher on the computerized examination.
    • IELTS examination requirement - a score of 6.5 or higher.
  • Obtain a Florida RN license prior to starting any clinical nursing courses.
